In Chacona, Keep in Touch Tuba Project covers a magical repertoire, giving a personal and different lecture of works written by geniuses of another time, small wonders that serve as excuse to elaborate a concert in which improvisation dominates the stage.
Chacona benefits from the good work of excellent musicians such as Andreas Prittwitz, Ton Risco, Oscar Camacho, Manuel Martínez and Miguel Altable, musicians with whom we have enjoyed and learned during a very intense weekend.
Chacona is an ambitious project that saw the light thanks to the generous collaboration of the Deputation Pontevedra, the Concello of Pontevedra, the Pazo da Cultura of Pontevedra, the CONSMUPA, the Radio Galega and Musical Pontevedra. The careful recording and video and audio editing of this concert was done by Pablo Barreiro, Pablo Costas and Diego Dojer, magnificent professionals to whom we are deeply grateful.
Thanks to all who have made Chacona possible ...
We hope you enjoy it

Auspiced by the Erasmus + program,
Professor Gabriel Capet will be at CONSMUPA from March 13 to 17, 2017.
Throughout the week, the CONSMUPA students will have the opportunity to attend
several individual and collective classes. They will receive the advice of an
excellent professional trained in the French tradition. It is a pleasure and an
honor to receive him at the CONSMUPA Tuba and Euphonium Studio
Thanks Gabriel
!!
Gabriel CAPET begun music in the
"municipal wind orchestra of Bully-MAZINGARBE" conducted by Raymond
BOUDRY. After classical studies (Conservatoire de Lille, OFJ, Académie d'Orchestre
de PARIS, CSNMD de Paris), his infatuation for eclecticism led him to interact
across different musical universes. His interest for small brass ensembles made
him play with ensembles such as: QUINTE JUSTE brass quintet (winner of the
Menuhin Foundation in 1986) and the TUBA quartet "Tuba Yaga".
TUBA player of the military orchestra
"MUSIQUE DES GARDIENS DE LA PAIX DE PARIS" from 1986 until 1994, he
often played with famous french symphonic orchestras: Opéra de Paris, Opéra de
Lyon, Orchestre National de Lille, de Bordeaux Aquitaine and big bands: Bekummernis
(conductor Luc LE MASNES ) Multicolour Feeling Fanfare Eddy LOUISS and with the
big band of the Conservatory of Lille (conductor Denis BADAULT Laurent CUNY ) .
Today, he is member of «l'Ensemble
Patchwork»: a swing-wing group who’s aiming to promote the Tuba through different
styles of music and formations. On several occasions, Gabriel CAPET plays with
brass ensembles such as: brass ensemble of the CNR de Lille, "SUR
MESURE"-brass ensemble, the brass ensemble of Orchestre National de Lille
and the "EUROBRASS ENSEMBLE" and « Aeolus brass-Band ». He also
performs as a soloist with wind-bands such Calonne Ricouart, Villars Bonnot,
with brass Bands: Brass-Band from 43° RI, Brass-Band Nord-Pas-de-Calais, OCA
Brass-Band, Brass-Band Aeolus.
Willing to share his passion and experience,
Gabriel teaches at the "Conservatoire Royal de Liege, CRR de Lille and in
the music school of Calonne Ricouart (in twenty five years, he taught at 250
different students 30 became professional musicians or teachers).
He also participated at international
summer schools like EPSIVAL or the international academy of Dinant. He organised
different events such as "Rencontres inter-régionnales de tuba" ,
with his friend Thierry THIBAULT or “Discovering the TUBA” with Marc Steckar
and P.Legris, “TUBA meets cello” with the Danel quartet, TUBA meets
Improvisation” with Didier Havet and J. Deregnaucourt, “TUBA meets French horn”
with T.Lentz.
Today, Gabriel CAPET continues this
musical way by commissioning creation of contemporary musical pieces from Thierry
MEURISSE or Arnaud BOUKHITINE and by participating in the development of
Willson 3400S Eb tuba FA-5.

Written in 1965, Mirum is a work that exploits the expressive resources of the tuba, with numerous indications in which the composer specifies what type of articulation and dynamic is needed in each fragment. The work ends with the interpreter reciting the following text:
Tuba Mirum spargens sonum
Per sepulcra regionum,
Coget omnes ante thronum.
Mors stupebit et natura,
Cum resurget creature
Judicanti responsura.
Magnificent performance by Nicolás Portas Ricoy recorded live at the auditorium of the CONSMUPA. Headphones recommended!!

Excellent tuba player, extraordinary musician and incomparable pedagogue, Mel Culbertson visited Spain frequently throughout his long career. Among the many courses that Mel taught in our country, for me it was of vital importance the class that in the nineties, against all odds, organized Raul Seguí in Castelló de la Ribera (Valencia) and that was attended by Mel Culbertson during its nine editions. Mel was, in a way, the axis around which in Castelló de la Ribera gathered excellent teachers as Roger Bobo, Miguel Navarro, József Bazsinka, Michel Godard, David Llacer, and Miguel Moreno among others.
At the meeting there were tuba players from all over Europe, young people full of enthusiasm, some of which have already become benchmarks for generations to come. It was at this masterclass where I met Mel.
Later, when I settled in the north of Spain, with the invaluable help of Raul Galan, I invited Mel to teach at Betanzos. As usual, his incomparable ability to summon people assured the success of the class, counting again with the presence of many young enthusiasts tuba players, eager to work and learn, who worked together with advanced students and professional tubist. Many of those attending such courses are now members of various professional orchestras and harmony bands, and teachers of some of the major conservatories in northern Spain. It was in Betanzos where I made the first contact with Manuel Martinez Villar (Lolo), Francisco Javier Lavía Fontán, Pablo Doval Golmar, all them excellent teachers able to flourish in Galicia successive generations of great tuba players. They, along with David Muñoz Velazquez whom I met later, and Pablo Dopazo Gondar, Hugo Portas Ricoy, Rubén Costa Paz, Nicolás Portas Ricoy, Guillermo Collazo Cortegoso, Isaac Rodríguex Cotrofe, Iván Fernández Alende and all the succesive generations of tuba players formed at the CONSMUPA, have become the main engine of this project.
In his master classes, Mel taught us not only to play the tuba, but also to love the instrument, to respect it, and to use all the possibilities available in order to express our creativity. Those courses gave us the posibility to meet a great person, humble and generous, an incredible hard worker. We enjoyed a tremendously respectful and dedicated teacher,... an example to follow.
As a result of these meetings, and in some ways as a conjunct result of the activities done in those courses with the work developed at the CONSMUPA Tuba and Euphonium Studio thorough all these years, Keep in Touch Tuba Project was born.
Formed by teachers from different conservatories and music schools of northern Spain, by musicians from professional and amateurs orchestras and bands, and by students of all levels ―from beginners to those already trained and prepared to make the jump to the professional life―, the ensemble has a varied repertoire that includes such a wide range of styles as baroque, classicism, contemporary music, jazz, rock and modern music. Following the teachings received from Mel Culbertson, from Keep in Touch Tuba Project we intend to establish a learning platform, contributing to the development of young people who benefit from playing side by side with experienced musicians. The concerts involve contact with the real job, offering, sometimes, the possibility of sharing the stage with important figures such as Michel Godard, Andreas Prittwitz and Ton Risco. On the other hand, the recording sessions teach us to be very effective, to concentrate as much as posible, to get a good recording with only three takes, being as it is so dificult to put together so many people from so many diferent places for a recording.

Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary (1695)
Henry Purcell/Arranged by Alfonso Mollá Castells
Keep in Touch Tuba Project is an open, flexible and inclusive group, any contribution helps us grow, knowing that each and every one of the participants have an unsuspected talent, often underused. The demand is high, we must learn to concentrate and make the most of the few rehearsals that we have and finally enjoy contact with the public. Each project is an opportunity to play together, and develop different skills that will be needed to face all kinds of contests and auditions in the future. A group that has the valuable collaboration of María Cuadriello, Juan José Díaz, Jorge Rodríguez, Jorge Juan Deaño, Vanessa Menéndez, Guillermo Odriozola, and Miguel Altable, all them great percussionists, pianist like Oscar Camacho, Maria Luz Bonhomme and Inés Montaña, and harpsichord players like Inés Montaña and Samuel Pedro Maíllo always willing to participate in our projects. Not forgetting Miguel Angel Fernandez and René de Coupaud, without whose generosity and expertise we could not have carried out many of our projects.

Keep in Touch Tuba Project + Michel Godard
In line with our primarily didactic purpose, Keep in Touch Tuba Project, regularly organizes Master clasess, with excellent teachers like Arnaud Boukhitine, Miguel Valles, Michel Godard, József Bazsinka and Perry Hoogendijk. Keep in Touch Tuba Project is not an end in itself but a vehicle to spread a conception of music in general, and of tuba in particular, heiress mainly of the powerful influence of Mel Culbertson. Shortly before the debut concert of the ensemble we received the devastating news of the death of Mel. Unfortunately, this concert became our modest posthumous tribute to the Master. During the sad farewell ceremony at Mel's funeral, there were several particularly touching speeches by family members and friends. Arnaud Boukhitine ended his speech by recalling that Mel always said goodbye with a "Keep in Touch", Mel was not a man of goodbyes, we were always summoned to the next ... probably the last words that we all had heard him pronouncing were Let's Keep in Touch ... days later, reflecting on what might be the most appropriate name for the ensemble, I thought that Keep in Touch Tuba Project adequately represented the essence of the group. Being as it was an immense personality, Mel Culberton left his mark in many places, forming numerous musicians all over the world who continue his excellent outreach task, dignifying our instrument. Our aim is, to the extent of our possibilities, to contribute with our humble grain of sand to keep alive the memory of Mel, teacher and friend. Alfonso Mollá Castells

Excelente
A
